Urgent Search Continues for Missing Teen on Chicago’s South Side as Family, Police, and Volunteers Near Two Weeks Without Answers

CHICAGO, IL — Concern is growing on Chicago’s South Side as the search for a missing teenager nears the two-week mark, with no confirmed sightings and few leads, police and family members said Friday.

The 16-year-old boy, whose name has not been released publicly at the family’s request, was last seen on April 13 near 63rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood. According to police, he was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and white sneakers when he disappeared.

Chicago Police Department officials issued a missing person alert shortly after he was reported missing but say that despite extensive efforts — including canvassing the area, reviewing surveillance footage, and following multiple tips — the teen remains unlocated.

“We are exhausting every resource to bring this young man home safely,” said CPD spokesperson Officer Amanda Rollins. “We urge anyone who may have seen something, no matter how small, to come forward.”

Family members describe the teen as kind, funny, and hardworking. They say his disappearance is highly out of character.

“He always checks in,” said his older sister, holding back tears during a small vigil held Thursday night. “We just want him home.”

Local community groups and volunteers have organized daily search parties, distributing flyers, sharing posts across social media, and coordinating with neighborhood businesses to spread awareness.

Antoinette Smith, a volunteer with the South Side Safe Streets initiative, emphasized the urgency. “When a child goes missing, every hour matters. We need the whole city’s eyes open.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Area One detectives at (312) 747-8380 or to submit tips anonymously through cpdtip.com.

A reward is being offered for information that leads to his safe return.

As the days stretch on, the boy’s family continues to hold out hope. Another vigil and community walk are planned for this weekend to keep attention on the case — and to send a clear message: they are not giving up.
