ROCHESTER, NY — A 17-year-old girl is in critical condition following a double shooting early Wednesday morning on Alphonse Street in the city’s northeast side. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on April 30, when 18-year-old Michael Garcia of Rochester arrived at a residence on Alphonse Street with several individuals. According to the Rochester Police Department, the group intended to retaliate for a previous altercation.
Upon arrival, Garcia opened fire, striking a 30-year-old man who was outside the home. The gunfire also penetrated the residence, unintentionally hitting the 17-year-old girl inside. Both victims were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital; the adult male is expected to survive, while the teenager remains in critical condition.
Investigators have charged Garcia with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail without bail. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The Rochester Police Department, in collaboration with local organizations, is working to address the root causes of youth violence and provide support to affected families and communities. As the investigation into this latest shooting continues, authorities are hopeful that increased awareness and intervention will help curb the rising tide of violence.
