Platteville Mourns the Loss of Paramedic Nate Klimek, A Respected First Responder and Devoted Family Man

PLATTEVILLE, CO — April 30, 2025

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District has announced the passing of Paramedic Nate Klimek, a cherished colleague, community servant, and devoted family man. Klimek, 38, died on Monday, April 28, 2025, leaving an indelible mark on his department, his community, and everyone privileged to know him.

Nate Klimek was more than a first responder; he was a source of strength, compassion, and unwavering commitment both in and out of uniform. His passing has cast a pall of grief over Platteville and the surrounding Weld County region, as friends, family, and colleagues grapple with the sudden loss of a man who dedicated his life to saving others.

Klimek is survived by his loving wife, Sarah, and their three young children, whose lives are forever changed by this heartbreaking tragedy.

A Life of Service and Sacrifice

Joining the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District in 2012, Klimek quickly distinguished himself as a paramedic of exceptional skill and empathy. He responded to countless emergencies over his 13-year career, often putting his own safety second to the well-being of others. Fellow firefighters and paramedics describe him as a calm and capable leader during chaotic moments, someone who brought reassurance and expertise to every call.

“Nate embodied the true spirit of public service,” said Fire Chief Rick Morales. “He was the guy you wanted by your side when things got tough—smart, compassionate, and endlessly dependable. His loss is a devastating blow to our department and to the entire Platteville community.”

Klimek’s passion for emergency medical care extended beyond his day-to-day duties. He regularly mentored new recruits, taught CPR and first aid classes, and advocated tirelessly for improved training and resources to better serve the community.

Remembered for His Heart

While his professional achievements were many, those closest to Klimek say his greatest pride and joy was his family. Friends and relatives recall a devoted husband and doting father who never missed an opportunity to coach his kids’ sports teams, volunteer at school events, or embark on outdoor adventures with his family.

“Nate had this incredible way of making everyone feel like they mattered,” said family friend Jessica Harper. “He was always there with a smile, a joke, or a helping hand. His love for Sarah and the kids was evident in everything he did.”

Outpouring of Support

In the wake of Klimek’s passing, tributes and messages of condolence have poured in from all corners of the state and beyond. Firehouses across Colorado have draped their stations in black bunting, and a growing memorial of flowers, cards, and candles now surrounds the entrance to the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Station.

A dedicated online memorial page, In Loving Memory of Paramedic Nate Klimek, has been created, offering friends, colleagues, and community members a space to share stories, memories, and photos of Nate’s impactful life.

The department has also set up the Nate Klimek Memorial Fund to support Sarah and the children in the challenging days ahead. Donations can be made through local bank branches or via the official fire district website.

Honoring His Legacy

Funeral services for Paramedic Klimek will be held on Saturday, May 3, at Platteville Community Church, with a full honors procession planned. Fellow first responders from across the state are expected to attend, forming a sea of blue and red in tribute to one of their own.

“Nate may be gone, but his legacy of courage, kindness, and community spirit will endure,” Chief Morales said. “We will honor his memory every day by continuing the work he loved so much.”

As Platteville mourns, the town also unites, inspired by the example of a man who gave everything for others. Paramedic Nate Klimek’s selfless service and unwavering love for his family and community will never be forgotten.
