Minneapolis Rocked by Two Related Shootings That Leave Four Dead, Two Critically Injured: Police Investigating Possible Gang Links

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating two deadly shootings as related incidents after a string of gun violence claimed four lives and left two others fighting for survival between late Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

The first and more devastating shooting occurred just before midnight on Tuesday, April 29, near the intersection of 25th Street and Bloomington Avenue in the city’s Phillips neighborhood — an area that has seen periodic surges in violence in recent years.

Responding officers arrived to a chilling scene where five individuals had been shot, four of them found inside a vehicle and one lying on the sidewalk nearby. The victims were quickly assessed by emergency responders, but tragically, three of them were pronounced dead at the scene: a 17-year-old male, a 20-year-old female, and a 27-year-old male. The names of the victims have not yet been released, pending family notifications.

The two surviving victims — an adult man and woman — were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition. Police say they are being treated for life-threatening injuries.

“This level of violence is devastating,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara during a press briefing Wednesday morning. “We believe this was a targeted shooting, and we’re working with multiple units to investigate any potential gang involvement or other motives.”

Just hours after the first tragedy, a second fatal shooting occurred on Wednesday afternoon in South Minneapolis, near the 2100 block of Cedar Avenue, close to the Red Lake apartment complex and adjacent to the Minneapolis American Indian Center. In this incident, one individual — who police have not yet identified — was found dead with apparent gunshot wounds. Authorities have since linked this shooting to the earlier incident, suggesting a likely continuation of the same violent conflict.

According to witnesses and unencrypted police scanner traffic, a suspect vehicle — possibly an older-model silver Chevrolet Impala, potentially missing a rear bumper — was seen fleeing the second crime scene. At least three young males were reported to be inside, one of whom was wearing a light blue hoodie.

As the sun set over the city, a somber crowd gathered outside the Red Lake apartments, mourning yet another life lost and voicing concerns about the ongoing rise in gun violence. Community leaders and local activists have called for immediate action, including stronger intervention programs for youth and better policing strategies for high-crime areas.

Chief O’Hara noted that investigators are looking into potential links between both shootings and ongoing rivalries, though he stressed that no conclusions have yet been drawn. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday evening.

“We are urging anyone who may have seen something or has any information, no matter how small, to come forward,” O’Hara said. Crime Stoppers of Minnesota is offering a reward for tips leading to an arrest.

The two shootings mark a grim chapter in what has already been a violent spring for Minneapolis. The twin incidents have further fueled conversations around public safety reform, resource allocation, and the urgent need for community-based violence prevention.

This is a developing story. Authorities are expected to release further updates as the investigation continues. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Minneapolis Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip online.
