Man Fatally Shot Multiple Times in Valero Parking Lot Near NRG Stadium in Houston; Suspect Fled Scene as Police Launch Investigation Into Deadly Shooting

 

 

 

HOUSTON — A man was fatally shot Sunday night at a Valero gas station on South Main Street, and Houston police are actively searching for the suspect who fled the scene.

The deadly shooting unfolded around 9:30 p.m. in the 9300 block of S. Main Street, near NRG Stadium. According to Lieutenant J.P. Horelica of the Houston Police Department (HPD), officers had been responding to a traffic accident nearby when they heard a series of gunshots ring out.

When police rushed to the scene, they discovered a male victim lying in the middle of the Valero parking lot. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately called for medical assistance, and paramedics from the Houston Fire Department arrived shortly afterward to administer CPR.

The wounded man was transported to a nearby trauma center but tragically succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

“The officers were in the area working another call when they heard the shots and immediately responded,” Lt. Horelica said during a late-night press briefing. “Unfortunately, the victim had been shot several times. Despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff, he was pronounced deceased.”

Authorities say that the shooter fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. HPD detectives are now combing through surveillance footage from the gas station and neighboring businesses, collecting evidence, and speaking to witnesses in hopes of identifying the suspect.

At this time, the victim’s identity has not been publicly released pending notification of his next of kin. No information about a possible motive or suspect description has been disclosed.
