Double Shooting on Eastbound I-94 Near 10 Mile Causes Major Traffic Shutdown; 26-Year-Old Man Injured as Police Search for Suspect Vehicle in Ongoing Investigation
April 26, 2025
Authorities are investigating a double shooting that took place early Saturday afternoon on eastbound I-94, just north of the 10 Mile Road exit. The incident has caused major traffic disruptions, with all eastbound traffic being forced off at the 10 Mile exit as officers work to secure the scene and gather evidence.
According to preliminary reports from the Michigan State Police, shots were fired from a moving vehicle, striking two individuals traveling on the freeway. First responders were quickly dispatched to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire and a vehicle swerving dangerously along the highway.
Upon arrival, officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds inside a dark-colored sedan that had come to a stop on the shoulder. Emergency medical personnel provided immediate aid at the scene before transporting both individuals to a nearby hospital. Their current conditions have not yet been released.
The freeway was shut down at approximately 1:30 p.m. as investigators began their work, causing significant delays in the area. Traffic was rerouted off the 10 Mile exit, leading to heavy congestion on surface streets as drivers scrambled to find alternate routes.
Police say they are searching for a suspect vehicle described by witnesses as a silver SUV that fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Authorities have not yet released any information regarding a possible motive, but detectives are working to determine whether the shooting was random or targeted.
“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage from that time and location to come forward,” said Lt. Marcus Grant during a press briefing. “This is an active and ongoing investigation, and every piece of information is critical.”
The incident has left many commuters shaken. “You don’t expect something like this to happen while you’re just driving on the freeway,” said Alex Martinez, a driver who was just a few cars behind the victims when the shooting occurred. “It’s terrifying.”
Traffic remains severely impacted in the area, and officials are advising drivers to avoid eastbound I-94 between 8 Mile and 12 Mile for the foreseeable future. Road closures are expected to last several more hours while crime scene investigators document the area, collect evidence, and reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
Local law enforcement agencies have increased patrols along the freeway and surrounding areas as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, community leaders are calling for calm and cooperation as police work to bring those responsible to justice.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Michigan State Police tip line at (555) 234-5678 or submit tips anonymously through the department’s mobile app.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, hoping for swift arrests and answers to the latest act of freeway violence that has disrupted daily life and endangered innocent lives.
