Armed Suspect at Large in Kingman and Golden Valley; Law Enforcement Warns Public to Stay Clear of Affected Areas
Kingman, AZ — April 30, 2025
Law enforcement agencies are actively searching for an armed suspect who remains at large in the Kingman and Golden Valley area of Mohave County, prompting urgent warnings from authorities for residents to remain indoors and avoid the affected zones.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the manhunt began late Tuesday evening following a reported armed confrontation near Interstate 40, west of Kingman. Witnesses said the suspect fled on foot into the desert terrain after allegedly firing shots during a traffic stop. No injuries have been reported at this time, but the suspect is considered “armed and extremely dangerous.”
Multiple law enforcement units, including the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), Kingman Police Department, and federal agencies, have been deployed to the area. Aerial support, K-9 units, and tactical teams are also assisting in the search as authorities comb through rugged terrain, abandoned structures, and nearby roadways.
“We are asking all residents in the Kingman and Golden Valley areas to shelter in place until further notice,” said Mohave County Sheriff Doug Schuster in a press briefing Wednesday morning. “Do not approach any suspicious individuals, and call 911 immediately if you spot someone matching the suspect’s description.”
Authorities have not released the name of the suspect but described him as a white male in his 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothing and carrying a rifle. Surveillance footage obtained from a local gas station near Highway 93 showed the suspect exiting a silver pickup truck before disappearing into nearby brush.
Golden Valley Elementary School and other institutions in the area have canceled classes for the day, and several businesses have temporarily closed as a precaution. Residents have taken to social media to share updates and express concerns, with many reporting a heavy police presence throughout the region.
The ongoing situation has sparked concerns about safety in the surrounding communities, particularly given the suspect’s apparent willingness to engage with law enforcement.
“We don’t know what he’s capable of or what his endgame might be,” said Lt. Amanda Collins with the Kingman Police Department. “But we are committed to bringing this situation to a peaceful resolution and ensuring that no innocent lives are put at risk.”
Local authorities are also asking anyone with home security footage in the area to review their cameras and report any suspicious activity. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the Mohave Silent Witness program.
The search has caused significant traffic disruptions, with portions of Highway 68 and several rural roads shut down. Commuters are being advised to seek alternate routes and to expect delays in and around Kingman and Golden Valley until the area is deemed secure.
This is a developing story. Authorities urge the public to monitor official social media channels and local news for real-time updates.
