54-year-old Israel McNair Accused of Breaking into Ex-Girlfriend’s Lawrenceville Home, Stabbing Her Multiple Times
LAWRENCEVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) — A man is facing serious charges after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Lawrenceville home and stabbing her multiple times in a disturbing early morning attack.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Pittsburgh Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home on Davison Street, near Service Way, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday following reports of a stabbing. When first responders arrived, they found a female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations. She was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where officials later described her condition as serious but stable.
The victim’s son, who was home at the time of the attack, told police he had been sleeping in a room adjacent to his mother’s bedroom. He was awoken by loud noises coming from her room. Upon investigating, he witnessed 54-year-old Israel McNair — identified as his mother’s ex-boyfriend — fleeing the scene, running down the stairs.
Authorities said that after securing the crime scene, officers interviewed the victim at the hospital. The woman explained that she had been asleep when she suddenly woke up to find McNair standing over her. Without warning, McNair allegedly began stabbing and slashing her repeatedly with an unknown type of blade. She described the terrifying moment to police, saying that McNair fled the room and ran downstairs after the assault.
The victim also informed police that McNair did not have a key to her home but had a history of breaking in through a basement window. During their investigation, officers confirmed this detail when they discovered an open window in the basement of the residence.
In a significant development later that morning, at approximately 4:35 a.m., McNair himself called 911. During the call, he admitted he might have a warrant out for his arrest related to the stabbing incident and revealed he was located at a GetGo convenience store on Butler Street.
Responding officers quickly located McNair at the GetGo and took him into custody without further incident.
McNair now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, burglary, criminal trespass, and other related offenses. He is being held pending further court proceedings.
This violent incident underscores continuing concerns about domestic violence and the dangers posed when alleged abusers violate protective boundaries. Police have stated that the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as they gather more information.
The Allegheny County District Attorney’s office is expected to prosecute the case.
